Hope 4 Our
Children collaborates with Dayah Subulussalam Foundation, our local
partner in Indonesia, in helping orphan children in Aceh rebuild their lives by
providing them access to education.
About Dayah
Subulussalam Foundation:
Dayah
Subulussalam orphanage boarding school was founded 16 years ago as a trust by
the father of Ms. Elly Risman. Elly Risman is the Education Director of Yayasan
Subulussalam, an NGO which oversees Dayah Subulussalam Orphanage and Boarding
School. Currently Dayah Subulussalam placed more than 200 disadvantaged
children/orphans, including some children victims of tsunami. Dayah Subulussalam
is located in Jontor village, Subulusalam; Kecamatan Simpang Kiri, Kabupaten
Aceh Singkil, just in the border of Aceh and North Sumatra.
Ms. Risman is a
psychologist and also a founder of an NGO, Yayasan Kita dan Buah Hati. This NGO
provides professional development of programs geared towards training in
parenting skills and communication skills. They also train parents on how to
care for traumatized children from birth through age 15. Her expertise and role
is important for the development of Dayah Subulussalam. It will allow her to set
a suitable environment for disadvantaged and traumatized children.
Currently, to
help the victims of Tsunami in Aceh, Yayasan Kita dan Buah Hati provides
psychological trainings for volunteers on how to deal and communicate with
traumatized children. Six psychologists of Yayasan Kita dan Buah Hati train
college students, who volunteer to work with 7 15 year-old school children to
regain their self-confidence, recognize their talents, communicate more
effectively with parents and friends, and better prepare themselves to enter
their teenage years. The training sessions use methods which incorporate play
and other age-appropriate teaching techniques.
